Elvira's owner and chef, Ruben Monroy

The owner/chef Ruben Monroy, the grandson of the original founder of the Restaurant, takes traditional dishes such as moles (they have a wide selection), squash blossom, quesadillas, and chiles rellenos, including one named after Frida Kahlo, a Mexican artist who used bold colors, and other Mexican fare and elevates them to new heights. The expansive drink selection includes tequila and mezcal, Mexican wines and beers, Margaritas made with mango, tamarind, and agave honey, and mojitos and guanabanatinis - martinis that use guanabana fruit, a fruit native to Mexico.

Monroy created an environment that transports its visitors into an unforgettable experience using the graphic and interior design experience he obtained before attending culinary school. A sleek wooden bar, beautiful vases, and pots, lush curtains, candle holders in a variety of shapes and sizes, Mexican crafts and art, and so much more are displayed against blue walls that are the backdrop for large framed mirrors, colorful cascading lights suspended from the ceiling, and so much more.

Elvira’s extensive lunch and dinner menus provide the best Mexican fare in Southern Arizona.

A Few of Our Favorites

A Rave Review!

“Unique ambiance, flavorful food, sweet dessert, enticing drinks, and pleasant service.

Elvira's has it all.

Salsa and beans can make or break a Mexican restaurant and there are no concerns here. Yum. I had the Caribbean Pineapple grilled Flounder; the pineapple made the flavor explode. The Garlic Grilled Shrimp received rave reviews. Don't miss the lava flow cake. My favorite was the Hibiscus margarita- the bomb!!”

What Our Customers Have to Say

Will Return!

“My husband and I went to Elvira’s based upon reviews. The service was good and the food was excellent! We are quite particular about food as my husband is a very good cook. My husband had the Oaxacan Mole with chicken which he really enjoyed. I had the pan sautéed Cabrillo fish with Verde sauce. It was perfectly prepared and easily the best fish I’ve had in a restaurant in recent memory.
We will go to Elvira’s any time we are in Tubac and will make the drive occasionally just to eat there”

Upscale restaurant with a great vibe.

“This was unexpected for a small town! Beautiful restaurant, great food an attentive staff. We stopped in for a late dinner. The patio and decor was gorgeous and unique.”

Fantastic!

“Enjoyed an excellent lunch today that was as great as any evening expensive dinner we could have had. What a great surprise to find this quality in Tubac! We travel most of the year and favor back roads and small-town treasures..........this may be the best we have come upon. Visiting with the owner about the family's history since Grandmother Elvira opened her restaurant only enhanced a great experience. Tubac is a couple of hours from our home but we will drive there just for Elvira's.
We loved the salsa, the margarita's, the (very unique) cheese crisp, and the green chili enchiladas”

Not Your Neighborhood Mexican Restaurant

“Nothing against neighborhood Mexican restaurants, but I think we all a certain vision of how they look, the menu selections and the basic vibe. Forget all about that when you come to Elvira's. It's chic, upscale, dreamy decor and great food. I was lucky to be there during a less crowded time, as I hear it can be crazy "in season" or on a weekend night. I was there by 11:15 on a weekday in July and the first person seated. I can't complain about anything as I was too busy being amazed at the decor. I had something from the summer lunch menu which was a variation of a chicken/shrimp taco, served with a slaw and greens. It was a fairly dainty serving but the quality of everything was amazing. I topped it off with their signature flan that was the best I've ever eaten. I can imagine that on a busy evening, it must get chaotic, but if you plan your visit well, you'll be rewarded as I was with a perfect and memorable experience”
